A Leadpages custom domain name lets your landing pages, sites and blogs load from an address you own, such as yourdomain.com or offer.yourdomain.com, instead of a shared Leadpages address. You keep the domain at your registrar and change a few DNS records; Leadpages keeps hosting the pages and adds a free SSL certificate. This guide covers the newer Leadpages app first, then the Classic Builder, with the exact records each one uses. If you have not built a page yet, start with the Leadpages beginner tutorial.
Leadpages Domain Setup at a Glance
- Where: Dashboard, Manage, Custom Domains, Connect Domain.
- Automatic setup through Leadpages' DNS partner Entri, or manual records if your provider is not supported.
- Root or subdomain: use a subdomain if a website already lives on the root domain.
- SSL is free and renews automatically; verification and SSL can take up to 48 hours.
- Hosting stays with Leadpages: you change DNS records, not where the files live.
What Your Leadpages URL Looks Like Without a Domain

Until you connect a domain, pages publish to an address Leadpages provides. In the newer app, the help center shows a preview address in the form your-name-1328.lpcontent.net/page-slug, and sites in the form pages.leadpages.com/s/your-slug. These addresses work fully, but they are shared, and published pages show a banner saying they are on a preview URL. The banner disappears once the page is served from your own domain.
Classic Builder accounts get a Leadpages subdomain in the form accountname.lpages.co, chosen the first time you publish. It must start with a letter, have at least six characters and contain no spaces, uppercase letters or special characters. Only one Leadpages site can use that subdomain, although landing pages can still be published alongside it.
Before You Connect: Root Domain or Subdomain?
The most important decision is which address to connect, because it decides what happens to any existing website.
| Situation | Connect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| No website on the domain yet | Root domain (yourdomain.com) and www | Leadpages becomes the whole site or homepage |
| A website already runs on the domain | A subdomain such as go.yourdomain.com | Connecting the root or www would hide the existing site |
| Testing before a switch | A subdomain | The old site stays live until you are ready |
Leadpages warns that connecting a root domain that already hosts a website overrides it: the old site is not deleted, but it becomes hidden and inaccessible. If you already run WordPress on the root domain, the Leadpages WordPress plugin is another way to show Leadpages pages there without moving the domain. Check your plan's allowance too. The pricing page lists one custom domain with SSL on Pro, two on Business, four on Grow and six on Optimize; some help articles for the newer app show higher numbers, so confirm on the Leadpages pricing guide.
Option 1: Connect Your Domain Automatically
- Open Custom Domains from the Dashboard, under Manage, and click Connect Domain.
- Enter the domain: a root domain like yourdomain.com or a subdomain like sales.yourdomain.com.
- Choose what it Points To: a landing page, a site or a blog. You can also set this later.
- Click Add & Configure Domain.
- In the Entri pop-up, click Continue. Entri checks your DNS provider, including services such as Cloudflare.
- Click Authorize, sign in to your provider to give one-time permission, review the records that will be added or replaced, and click Authorize again.
- Click Done when the confirmation appears.
If you would rather edit DNS yourself, choose Go to manual setup at the authorization step. For one popular registrar's screens, see Leadpages with GoDaddy.
Option 2: Add the DNS Records Manually
Use manual setup when Entri does not support your provider. Log in where your DNS is managed (your registrar, or a service such as Cloudflare if your nameservers point there) and add these records from the newer app's help article:
| Type | Host / Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ | 162.159.142.254 |
| A | @ | 172.66.2.250 |
| CNAME | www (or your subdomain) | customers.htmlpub.com |
| TXT | _cf-custom-hostname | The unique value Leadpages shows you |
If you are connecting only a subdomain and your main website should stay on the root domain, skip the two A records and add just the CNAME and TXT records. Remove any older A records on the same host that point elsewhere, because conflicting records are a common reason a domain will not resolve. You do not need to change nameservers.

Each connected domain points to one destination:
- A landing page: visitors to the domain see that page.
- A site: every page in the site is served under the domain. Each site uses one domain.
- A blog: posts live on the domain.
To change the destination later, use the Domains menu or, in the editor, the Action menu (the three dots) next to the Publish or Update button. Building a full site on your domain is covered step by step in how to build a website with Leadpages.
SSL, Verification and Waiting Times

Leadpages issues SSL certificates for connected domains free of charge, renews them automatically and always serves pages over HTTPS, so you do not need to buy a certificate. A domain shows as Pending until its DNS changes propagate, which can take up to 48 hours for manual changes, and the SSL certificate is issued after verification. If the padlock is still missing more than 24 hours after the domain verifies, the help center says to contact support. A custom domain with HTTPS is also one of the inputs for paid campaigns such as Google Ads landing pages, where a shared address can look less trustworthy.
Classic Builder Domain Setup
Classic Builder accounts connect domains from Domains in the navigation menu with Connect A Domain, then Next. Automatic connection covers more than 40 providers; otherwise Leadpages shows manual steps with different targets from the newer app:
- Root domain: an A record with host @ and value 35.202.21.90.
- www or another subdomain: a CNAME pointing to custom-proxy.leadpages.net.
- Before connecting: remove all AAAA records from the domain's DNS.
To publish a standalone Classic page on the domain, open Landing Pages, choose Publishing Options from the page's action menu, select the domain, enter a URL slug and click Done. You can also set a Classic page as the domain's homepage and 404 page under Domains. If you use Cloudflare, Leadpages recommends its Full or Full (Strict) SSL setting. Always follow the records your own account shows, because the two builders use different servers.
Why Leadpages Adds %20 or Odd Characters to Your Link
Web addresses cannot contain spaces, so browsers and apps replace each space with %20 (a standard called percent-encoding). If "%20" or "20" appears in a Leadpages link, the link or slug almost certainly contains a space, often from copying a page name or pasting a URL with a trailing space. Retype the link without spaces and use hyphens between words in slugs. The newer app's slugs accept only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, and custom slugs need a paid plan. Tracking parameters added by ad platforms, such as ?utm_source=, are different: they are meant to be there and do not break the page.
Troubleshooting Common Domain Problems
- Stuck on Pending: check each record for typos, confirm the host field holds only the prefix (www, not www.yourdomain.com, at most providers), and wait up to 48 hours.
- Domain does not resolve: confirm the CNAME value and delete conflicting A records on the same host.
- Your old website vanished: the root or www was connected while the old site lived there. Point those records back to your old host, or move Leadpages to a subdomain.
- Only one page shows instead of the site: the domain points to a landing page. Change its destination to the site.
- "Domain already mapped" or similar messages: Leadpages' help articles do not document this wording; contact Leadpages support, as the domain may already be connected somewhere.
- Classic Builder shows Pending Connection after 24 hours: repeat the publishing steps, then contact support.
Disconnecting or Replacing a Domain
In the Classic Builder, remove a domain with the trash icon under Domains, then delete the Leadpages DNS records at your provider; until you do, visitors see a Leadpages 404 page there, and assets published to that domain move to draft. The newer app's domain article does not describe removal, so use the Custom Domains area or ask support. Before switching a live campaign to a new domain, update your ads and emails, since links to the old address stop working once it is disconnected. When the domain is live, add it in Google Search Console if the pages should appear in search, as described in the Leadpages SEO guide.

Do I need a domain to use Leadpages?
No. Every account can publish to a built-in Leadpages address, so you can build and test without owning a domain. For campaigns and paid traffic, a custom domain looks more trustworthy and removes the preview banner Leadpages shows on its shared address.
When I connect my domain, does Leadpages host the pages?
Yes. Your domain stays with your registrar, and you only change its DNS records so they point to Leadpages. The pages themselves stay hosted on Leadpages' servers; nothing is uploaded to your own hosting.
How many custom domains can I use with Leadpages?
The pricing page lists one custom domain on Pro, two on Business, four on Grow and six on Optimize, each with SSL. Some help center articles list higher numbers for the newer app's plans, so confirm the limit in your account or on the pricing guide.
Can I publish Leadpages to multiple domains?
Yes, up to your plan's domain allowance. Each connected domain or subdomain points to one landing page, site or blog, and a site uses one domain, so separate brands usually get separate domains or subdomains.
Can I change my Leadpages subdomain?
In the Classic Builder, the account's lpages.co subdomain can be changed, but Leadpages advises against doing it often because it changes the address of every page published to it; the help center suggests contacting support. A custom subdomain you own, such as go.yourdomain.com, can be disconnected and replaced at any time.
Do I have to change nameservers for Leadpages?
No. The documented setups use individual DNS records (A, CNAME and TXT) added at your current DNS provider, so your nameservers, email and other records stay as they are.
