Leadpages Drag-and-Drop Editor (2026): Sections, Widgets and Layout

Leadpages pages are built by dragging sections and widgets onto a canvas. This guide explains how the layout fits together, which widgets exist and how to handle everyday editing tasks.

Updated November 7, 2026

The Leadpages drag and drop editor is where every page, site and pop-up gets built: you place content on a canvas, see the result as you work and publish when it looks right. Leadpages currently runs a newer app with an AI-assisted visual editor and the Classic Builder that many existing accounts still use, and both follow the same idea of stacking sections and filling them with content. This guide explains how the layout fits together, which widgets are documented and how to handle the editing tasks beginners search for most.

The Leadpages Editor in Brief

  • Sections are the large horizontal blocks of a page; rows and columns sit inside them.
  • Widgets are the content: text, images, buttons, forms, video, timers and more.
  • The newer editor adds an Inspector Panel, an Add panel and AI Chat for edits.
  • Preview modes show desktop, tablet and mobile layouts before you publish.

Which Leadpages Editor Are You Using?

Help articles for the newer app carry the label "[New Leadpages]". In that app you start from the Dashboard with New Page and edit in a visual editor with a settings panel on the right. The Classic Builder opens from Landing Pages in the navigation menu and shows Sections and Layout tabs on the left. Leadpages has also offered Page Studio, a newer builder within the main app with its own help articles. Leadpages retired its original Standard builder in November 2021, so tutorials older than that may show screens you will not find. When steps below differ, they are labelled by editor.

How a Leadpages Page Is Structured

Leadpages describes its drag-and-drop pages in four layers:

LayerWhat it doesTypical edits
SectionA full-width block, such as a hero, benefits or testimonials areaBackground image or color, overlay, padding, minimum height (Auto or Full)
RowA horizontal band inside a sectionDuplicate, reorder within the section
ColumnA vertical slot inside a rowAdd, reorder, resize by dragging the divider
WidgetThe content itselfText, styles, links, form fields, timers

The Classic Builder's Sections gallery holds pre-designed section templates in several categories. Drag one onto the page where you want it, and while you have not clicked inside it yet, you can swap it for another template. Section templates pick up your page's font styles, so you mostly change colors and copy.

Leadpages Widgets You Can Use

Leadpages' own guide to its drag-and-drop builder lists these widgets. Use it as a map of what is available rather than a promise that each appears in every editor:

WidgetUse it for
TextHeadlines, body copy, lists
ImagePhotos, logos, product shots
ButtonCalls to action, links to sections or pages, pop-up triggers
FormCapturing leads and sending them to your tools
VideoEmbedded explainer or sales videos
CountdownDeadlines for launches, webinars or offers
Progress barShowing how far through a sign-up a visitor is
Icon, line and spaceVisual structure and spacing
DateDisplaying a date on the page
SocialSharing and follow links
CheckoutsTaking payments on the page
Calendly and OpenTable embedsBooking calls or tables
HTMLEmbed code from other tools

The help center adds a Headline Swap feature and image editing tools alongside the widget articles. Forms have their own walkthrough in the Leadpages forms guide, and checkouts and order bumps are covered in Leadpages upsells and order bumps.

Editing in the Newer Visual Editor

The newer app's editor works on a select-and-adjust basis. Click any element and the Inspector Panel opens on the right with its settings:

  • Text is edited inline, with controls for font family, size, weight, line height, letter spacing, alignment and color.
  • Spacing and layout fields set padding, margin, width, height and corner radius. Drag a number field sideways to change it, and hold Shift for finer steps.
  • Backgrounds take solid colors or gradients, and your Brand Kit colors sit close at hand.
  • Images have fit and position options plus alt text in the Settings tab.
  • Links and buttons take a URL and can open in a new tab.

New content comes from the Add panel in the toolbar: images (uploaded or from your asset library), videos from YouTube, Vimeo or another URL, forms and checkout buttons. You can also select an element and describe the change to AI Chat, or ask it for a whole new section. Every element has a Name field at the top of the Inspector Panel, and naming elements makes complex layouts much easier to manage.

Everyday Editing Tasks

Add, Move or Copy a Section

In the Classic Builder, open Sections on the left, filter by Section Type or choose All Sections, and drag a template into place. Move content by dragging widgets or whole sections to a new position, and reorder rows and columns from the section's layout settings. To reuse a customized section on another page, copy it and paste it there; Leadpages notes that saving sections as your own templates is not available, and section templates cannot be used inside the pop-up builder.

Change the Header and Footer

On a standalone landing page, the header and footer are ordinary sections, so you edit them like any other. On a Leadpages site, the header and footer are shared across pages, which means a change applies everywhere; the website building guide explains site navigation.

Edit Text and Return Lines

Click into a text widget and type. Press Enter for a new paragraph; most rich-text editors, including web-based ones, insert a line break without a new paragraph with Shift+Enter, which is handy for addresses and short lines.

Undo Mistakes

Both editors support undo and redo with keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z), and both show undo and redo arrows in the toolbar. The newer app also keeps a version history for saving and restoring pages.

Rename, Duplicate, Preview and Share

  • Rename a page: in the Classic Builder, open the page's action menu in Landing Pages and choose Rename. The name is internal; set the SEO title for what visitors see.
  • Duplicate a page: choose Duplicate from the page's three-dot menu in the newer app to copy it, which is also how you build language versions or test variations by hand.
  • Preview: the newer editor's Preview button (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) hides the editing tools so forms, links and animations behave as they will for visitors, and the toolbar's device icons switch between desktop, tablet and mobile.
  • Share for feedback: publish the page and use Copy URL from its menu. For a private review, turn on password protection in Page Settings first.

Translate a Leadpages Page

Leadpages does not translate pages for you. Its Widget Language setting changes the fixed text inside widgets that you cannot edit directly, such as countdown timer labels, checkout shipping fields and progress bars, into one of six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian. Set it for the whole account under Account Settings, Page Customization, Widget Language, or for a single page from the builder's Settings, Language tab. Everything you write yourself appears in whatever language you type. For a translated version, the help center suggests duplicating the page, rewriting it in the new language and linking the versions to each other, or relying on visitors' browser translation.

Adding Widgets From Other Tools

Features Leadpages does not document as native widgets, such as accordions, tables or review displays, usually come from third-party tools that provide embed code. In the Classic Builder that code goes into the HTML widget; in the newer app you can upload or paste HTML when creating a page. Test embedded widgets on mobile and check page speed afterwards, since scripts from other services load on every visit. The custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript guide covers where code can go and what to watch for.

Layout Tips That Keep Pages Clean

  • One goal per page: repeat the same call to action rather than adding competing buttons.
  • Short sections: a headline, a few lines and one visual per section scan better on phones.
  • Use the space widget or padding instead of empty text lines to separate content.
  • Check mobile last, every time: columns stack on small screens, so content order matters. The mobile editing guide shows how to adjust it.
  • Start from a template if a blank canvas slows you down; the Leadpages templates guide shows the main styles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What widgets does Leadpages have?

Leadpages documents widgets for text, images, buttons, forms, video, icons, lines, space, dates, countdown timers, progress bars, social sharing, checkouts, Calendly and OpenTable embeds, and custom HTML. The newer editor's Add panel groups content into images, videos, forms and checkout.

Can I copy a section from one Leadpages page to another?

In the Classic Builder, yes: customize a section, copy it and paste it onto another page. Leadpages notes you cannot save a customized section as a reusable template, so copy and paste is the workaround.

How do I rename a Leadpages landing page?

In the Classic Builder, open the page's action menu in Landing Pages and choose Rename. To control what visitors see in the browser tab and search results, set the page's SEO title or meta title separately in its settings.

Can Leadpages translate a page?

Not automatically. Widget Language changes built-in widget text, such as countdown labels, into English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian, but your own copy stays as you type it. For a full translation, duplicate the page, rewrite it in the second language and link the versions together.

How do I send someone a preview of my Leadpages page?

Use Preview mode to check the page yourself. To share it, publish the page and use Copy URL from its menu; if it should stay private, Leadpages' page settings include password protection, which the help center suggests for client previews.

Can I add third-party widgets such as accordions or reviews?

Leadpages does not list a native accordion widget. Tools that offer embed code can usually be added through the HTML widget in the Classic Builder or by uploading HTML in the newer app; the custom code guide covers the details and limits.
